Lyric Plan

In today's lesson we discussed lyrics plans, so that we know what location we want for each shot and when and who will be in that shot. Also who is going to be in that scene including the dancers and actors. We annotated the lyrics saying that the Chris brown actor should be in the studio for the first verse and the chorus because the verse is so short and the chorus is repetitive we should have him in the studio by himself thinking about the girl and while this is happening there would be cut back to the girl walking down the street and him talking to her this would be in slow motion and would cut back to him in the studio thinking about that time he saw her. Akon's bit there would be a scene where he is by himself in the studio and also with the Chris brown actor to show the relationship between the two singers.

Treatment Powerpoint

Group Pitch of our ideas

Here we did a group pitch which was the treatment we were pitching our ideas to the class and getting feedback from them telling us about our idea and how we can improve it in anyway. we were told to improve the narrative and make it more planned out in terms of who will do what and when, some of our ideas didn't come across very well to the class so we would have to improve on what we are going to do lyric from lyric. As the chorus is repetitive we would have to do a lot of scenes to make it more exciting so more dancing and more cuts at a fast rate because the song is fast pace so this allows the audience to engage with the music and also the video. We would have to plan this out very well because the song does not have a set choreography so the dancers would have to create something with the song so we would have to ask them in advance and plan extras really well. The party scene is just gonna be a small gathering with the Chris brown actor and the girl he is talking to at the front talking and him singing to her basically this is where they meet and then a new scene would be where they are just having fun maybe him dancing for her as Chris brown does dance in majority of his videos, we were thinking maybe just a scene with the Chris brown actor and some of his boys dancing with him if the Chris brown actor is a dancer and we can get backup dancer maybe a dance routine from them.

"The infinite mix" Trip

Yesterday we visited the infinite mix at the Hayward gallery it was a collection of videos that was made by different artist and it was a time to think about your own video we were making and to get ideas about editing and how to make the flow through in the video. I enjoyed the trip because it made me think about my own music video and the plans that we were doing as a group.

Today's Notes Task 5 pre-production

Today in class we talked about the recce and risk assessment and how to show it on out blog we have to visit different locations and see if they are suitable for us to film in.

when you get the videos of the pitches and feedback you will embed on blogs and write up feedback on them.

  • logistics planning: times, places, equipment and actors.
  • need to do a risk assessment for each location
  • release forms to film in locations and for each actor
  • email in advance if its a place owned by a private company
  • recce: short for reconnaissance, a detailed check for potential locations for any risks.

Today's Lesson Final Idea : Came to do (ft. Akon)

In today's lesson as a group we did more research and came to the conclusion that 'came to do' by Chris brown ft. Akon was the best song to do, it went with our case studies and are planning to do a performance based idea for the video, including dancing and two male actors also if possible have a female actress as well because the song is about a guy talking to a girl, so we could make in a narrative form as well as performance. the lyrics are easy to learn if they don't know the song so lyrics won't really be a problem with the actors and some of the girls.

1st Idea

In today's lesson we were planning to this song getting male actors who knew the song to sing it, it is a very easy song to sing and learn it if the person doesn't, we were planning to do a performance based video where dancing will be involved as well, maybe getting in dancers and that have a chorography for the song would be easier if this was the case we could incorporate there dancing in with the track and make into a performance based music video. This song did not have a video which was a bonus because one of the requirements is to make sure the music video is not existing.
Locations we were thinking about was brick lane or a party scene linking to the lyrics and maybe a bedroom or with the actor sitting on the steps with drinks in his hand maybe. As a group we were thinking if the actor had Balenciaga this would be a bonus.

song idea task

Alex Clare - Won't let you down

Summary
  • The idea I have behind this song is a narrative music video showing a story through the song, the song is about man singing about his love of his life, so the idea would be having a male actor lip singing to the song and maybe having a female actor contemporary dance and flashing back to him singing showing his emotions.
  • "it's another grey autumn day your the sun trying to break through" he is expressing his love to her they could meet at the end of the song, basically saying that he won't let her down.

Props
  • Flowers as gift to the girl representing love to the women actor.
  • Chocolates to go with the flowers.
  • Maybe a mirror, he can be lip singing to a mirror practising his emotions and to add emphasise to the video.
  • A ring that reminds him of her, showing his memory with editing could be cutting to the girl dancing as he thinks about her.

Locations
  • A park, him resting on a tree and sitting on a park bench thinking about her, maybe a gloomy day will go with this very well.
  • Brick lane showing the art and with him expressing his feelings it relates to the art.
  • Leyton sixth form college he can sing with a black back drop on.
What makes the promo video different?
  • There is no music video for the song so we could create it on out own style and what we interpret from it.
  • It shows the guys feelings normal it is the female stereotypical singing a slow song about their love but now its male a different point of view so that it comes out in a different way
  • The song can be for a female or male actor so this can be expressed with her dancing but him singing.

Case Study 3 - Analysing a music video

Summary
The video is about a women wanting to be closer to her husband instead of working he should be with her, and he shouldn't be taking over nights instead he should be getting off early and together they can 'work from home'. She wants him take care of her and not leave her at home.
They are building area where his job is and they are singing to him trying to get his attention and listen to them. The song means that all the work his is doing at his job he can put in that work into her and get the same work out of it.
The video is narrative and performance type because they are still telling and it is flowing as each band member is singing and also they have a routine dance to the song this is known as performance style video.
Themes and Motifs
  • They use building equipment to relate to the video of the guy's job, like the tool that make cement, hammers, heavy lifting what man would typically work as this is a bit of stereotyping cause its saying that men only work as builders and do the heavy lifting
  • It is also that women are the distraction because the singers are just walking around them doing there Job and dressing in the work outfit looking like them.

  • Representation of the stars
The representation of the group is to look sexy for the men to come 'work at home', linking to what they are wearing denim shorts so that you can see the shape of their bodies it is also a hot day so you can see the men actors muscles and abs.
Lip syncing is involved through the whole video because they also dancing in the video so this would be hard to do.
They played the track over the filmed clips and edited it in so that it looks professional, the production levels look very good and because they are celebrities this is very key but I need to make sure I add this in my video or try to make it as professions as possible.

    Lip Syncing Practice.

Sequence Final Media Practice from Wasiq on Vimeo.
This was a practice where we learnt how to work with the cameras and the editing software and the special affects that came with it, we had to think about the camera angles and lighting to get the best outcome and so that we knew what we were doing when it came to the real thing. We had to make sure that the music from the background of the class was muted so that we can put the actually track of the video so that it will all come together. We did this in a group, one person was responsible for different bits of filming and editing.

    Tutorial on Fliming

Today we had a tutorial on how to use the camera and tripod we learnt to health and safety rules about the camera so when we come to use it we are aware of everything.
These are the key numbers that we need to know stuff like auto and manual focus and the exposure details.

    Analysing Ariana Grande's Music video.

Camera Angles, special effects, mise en scene and editing techniques.
    • Special effect on Iggy Azalea, most likely using green screen and is added during editing.
    • The cuts are very fast in terms of the beat of the music and what the song is about.
    • There is a lot of dancing meaning it is a performance base video.
    • A lot of close ups on Ariana and the guy in the video.
    • Long shots
    • Lip sinking is very good and is edited after this is being shot.
    • Superimposition
    • Matched cut to show relation.
    • Depth of Field when the guy in the video has a close up and is focused more on the guy than Ariana.
    • The target audience will be teenagers or someone who is going through a break up, even just her fans they are encouraged to watch it because of the flashing lights and good productions and also the dancing.

    TimeToast Schedule

    http://www.timetoast.com/timelines/1336646

Here is a link to the production schedule.
Today in class I made a production schedule for my coursework adding the due dates, important dates that will help me towards completing the music video and being organised towards my work. This also helps when I am in my group we can look back to our blogs and check when deadlines are and what needs to be done by that date, I used this last year because it helped me to keep up with my work and stay focused in what I had to do so this really helped me a lot.
