Mise-en-scene
The locations we used did link with the lyrics of the song
we tried to link it to the flashbacks we had put in, so he was visiting the
places he had good memories with her. “You used to come keep me company” we
used a very vulnerable location with a white background to show he was thinking
about her. We then continued to show flashbacks linking to that lyric to show
the relationships was trying to fix and get her to trust him again. We used a
park with mirrors around it and also link it to where they were playing in the
park, he was going over how they used to be. I think this location was really
good to use because the shot we used linked really well with the location and
because it was raining when we filmed it added a certain emotion to the music
video which the audience can relate to how he is feeling. The costume of the
main actor was jeans, top and bomber jacket we wanted this look because we were
doing a Bryson tiller song we wanted him to look and represent Bryson tiller,
and in the Don’t video he wears a costume similar to this and that is one of
the case studies we looked at as a group. Because we filmed on different days
the actor wore different clothes this gave us a range of costumes that we could
use and made the music video more real. Because music videos usually the artist
changes into different costumes all the time so we wanted that to be clear in our
music video. We decided to add more colour with our locations so we used a
graffiti wall, this reinforced existing forms because a lot of music videos
especially artist like Bryson tiller is associated with graffiti so we decided
to use this location because of it also the Graffiti wall is of a girl so this
could signify that he thought of her when he saw it and thought of her the
colours behind him are feminine so this could relate to the girl as well in the
video.
We used the phone call from Bryson tiller to add to our
narrative of the music video, I think that it added a real connection to the
video, this reinforced existing form and convention because certain music
videos show the screen of someone calling them for example in the little mix
hair video they each showed Leighanne calling them the camera filmed the phone,
so we used that to show a clear narrative. Especially when she ignored it and
kept on walking showed how they communicated, and really linked to the music
and made the audience sympathize towards her.
The lighting in certain scenes linked towards the mood he
was feeling.
Sound
The music cuts to the beat of the music, this connotes that
he is disorientated and is thinking about his girlfriend and wants her back. He
is switching between two times the past and the present and we showed that by
cutting to the beat of the song to really show his emotion.
Certain scenes link to the lyrics of the song.
Camera
The range of camera shots used in different scenes for
example mid shots, a low shot and long shot, In the music video we used a range
of different shots to show a range of different shots to show emotion between
the audience and the actor in the video. So for example we used mid shots to
show the relationship with him and the girl. To show how he was actually
feeling about her when he lost her.
Editing
Fast cuts to the beat of the music.
Black and white effect.
Slowing the clips down connecting to the flash backs.
Fading into another clip.
Putting another clip on top of each other changing the
opacity of one.
