This is one of my mock ups for my cd cover including the inside of it.

Case study - Jay-Z magazine single

The image I the middle won't be used because I don't want that type of mood to it but he will be standing in the middle and I will use this layout, it will involve the day the single will come out and all the different versions of the song so let me explain live and in concert things like that I also I like the red going across the image so I will somehow think of a way to add that in. I think i like the simplicity of it how i have picked case studies that are very similar to bryson tiller i think it will show the emotion of the song through the advert and him standing by himself, I will make the background black because i think the colour black will suit the song. I think adding the date at the bottom gives the audience a sense of information so they know when they have to pre order it by and when it's out so they can buy it in stores or online.     

Case study 3 - Partynextdoor 3

The use of imagery in the party next door album is that he is looking off to the side in every image back and front shows an emotional connection with the audience and reflects him and his music as a whole. The shots used are all mid shots and a close up on the back cover. The framing is very simple apart from the front cover where his in a circle and I think this adds uniqueness to the front cover because of the background it helps you to focus in the middle where the actual artist it I love how it's in the middle makes the audience focus on one single thing and that's why I picked this case studies because it is very simple and open to any meanings and connects with the music on the album. The angle is straight on but the camera is looking up at him a little bit. The body language is very serious and doesn't seem to be very happy the colours really do set the mood and it looks like he is reminiscing about something and that relates to the song we did for our music video he was thinking about how he missed the good times and wants her forgiveness and I think this album cover relates to the song we did very well. Also the fade into black on the front and back cover is really good and I want to use it in my own CD packaging that i am going to create, i think it will set a very great feel to the CD cover and will create meaning and emotion at the same time. Going with this type of design inside the CD i think that i could use different photography but in the same saw they use it at the front and back. I think that the partynextdoor album the inside of it is very simple and this is linked to the front and back not so much colour the left pane might even be black and this reflects the artist as a whole because it seems like an emotional album you would want it to have minimal colour.    

CD Case study 2 - Drake Thank me later

This is my second case study and this is sort of the same genre of Bryson tiller and uses the same colour (red). Because they are both male artist this will work well with taking photography, also the album cover is similar it’s very simple and has little on the album cover which I like. The shot of the camera is a close up on the face and the actor is looking upwards I like the shot used because it is very straight forward and has a lot of meaning behind and related to the songs on the album very thoughtful and emotional. The angle I think is straight on but because he is looking up the anglelooks like it is slightly lower than his face. Well his body is not showing on the front cover of the cd so its more his facial expressions and it is very serious it sets the mood when the audience actually picks it up and gives you a feel that it's a serious album. Lighting is very well lit and is different from the Bryson tiller album because the Bryson tiller album the lighting was very dark I think because this one uses a white background it is more bright. What I can take from this case study is the use of effects and the way that they have made the outline on drake black and the one behind it red I really like that and want to incorporate that into my own cd cover. I like how the artist name is in red and stands out from the album name and it goes with the effect that they use which is coloured red and that's something i would like to use in my own products that I will be making. The image at the back is something I could use as well but I will use my photography and work with the template of the back cover, maybe just a smaller image with the text beside it.                   

CD Case study 1 - Bryson Tiller

This is one of the case studies that I have chosen. It is the Bryson Tiller album and we did the song by him called let me explain. I have chosen his album because I want each of my designs to represent him and because he wrote and produced the song his design of his album would be best suitable. The back of the imaged is red this can easily be created on Photoshop or I could use professional photography lighting in the photography studio. The cover is very simple which I love but holds a much thicker meaning. This shot type on the back cover and front cover is all mid shots and that is the type of layout I am going for and the mysterious look especially on the back cover you see his shadow and the front cover is red I really like the photography used. The angle is used is very straight on but Bryson tiller is looking the other way and the emotion on the front cover I am very interested in the image because it is like he is disengaging with the audience and is focusing on the music and gives the audience a sense of mystery like I was saying before. Lighting is very dark and 

serious and matches the type of colours that have been used. The effects that have been used I think they have edited the images that have been use and I think focuses on the black silhouette effect so colour overlay on Photoshop. The text always in the middle for the front cover and back cover and is white so it stands out over the red and black I think that I will follow this layout because the text is very simple but makes a statement. I can use the colours that they have been used in a similar way and the layout of the cd cover. I want to use a font similar too has been used for this cd packaging because something bold would be to in your face and that's not how I want my audience to feel, I want them to feel a emotionally connected to the front cover so something big and bold wouldn't really go with the type of song we did by him. I can not find the inside of this case study because this artist has mainly used online such as iTunes to promote his album and it is not in stores that I have seen so in the style of this album cover I think the spine will be red with just his name in white in the middle as I said before his album packaging is very simple so I won't be adding anything too much to the spine. The colour will match the whole album. The inside of the cd the cd design will be red and black or white depending what goes with the imagery and the behind the cd design will be back to contrast the red so the writing on the cd will probably black to match the background. The left pane would be another piece of my photography and the background will be red matching the theme the whole image will cover the left pane. I am sticking to the colour scheme red, black and white to keep it organised and relatable to Bryson tiller as a artist. If I change my mind about the colours I will still get inspiration from the layout of the cd. If I have good photography I will add more pictures and possible make a booklet following the style of Bryson tiller.

This is part of the Saturday shoot using the mirror concept we filmed something like this before but we decided to use a better location something that is more exciting and it showed very because it was raining that day ad the mirrors had droplets on them so it was a good effect.

This is part of the Saturday shoot we filmed a part where it was in the street where a piece of graffiti was because we were told that we need more colour in the scenes that ready had so we had to add more and we also filmed in the Olympic park where he is thinking about the times where he had with her so it's like he is going back to the places where they spent the most time together.

Today's Meeting - Editing

 

In Today's lesson and group meeting we were working on how to add effects for our video in the  video above you can see we added the effect back and white because it is representing the past that they had together and to sure that it is basically not like that anymore.In the video one of my group members is making sure that the lip singing is clear and matched up with the song and making sure that the flashback is matched up with the lyrics.

Editing

Today we transferred the clips into the editing software and started to put the clips together and sync the singing from the video with the song, we made sure that we named our clips so that we don't get confused because as we were filming there was a lot of out takes that we used in our video as well as deleting some that were 1sec long. This is our first stages of editing and will be meeting up as a group during the week.

We filmed today the flashbacks for the narratives to go with the beat of the song this was basically going to the narrative of the song because he wants her back because he did something wrong and hurt her, so we decided that he would be thinking about the good times and wishing she was back to her normal self trusting him, but he messed up and now his by himself.

New Song - Bryson Tiller Let me Explain GROUP MEETING

As a group we have changed the song because the song was just not suiting our case studies in the best way it could and also the actors we picked wasn't cooperating in the best way and didn't know the lyrics well because the song was to fast and they were unreliable to actually learn it. In terms of the narratives there was little narrative in the song and we couldn't make much of it, there had to be dancing and a lot location shots and our actors was too busy for it to work. The new song that we have chosen is much better and requires less people and won't get too noisy in the studios and locations so would be easier to film so it works well with our timetables as well. As a group we decided that this would be the best option to take because the shoots that we planned to have was not going to well because the narrative we picked out was not being followed well.

Group Meeting

Today we sorted out what days and the time we will be filming and trying to figure out when the actors and dancers are able to film on those days we finished up the call sheets as well as telling dancers what they have wear for the shoot in the studio at college.

Group Meeting - Talent release forms AND Location Release Form (PRE PRODUCTION)

Today as group we discussed the talent release form and organising who has signed and who hasn't we then noticed that we had all the talent release forms and location forms that is needed, the gathering scene will be shot at Rochelle's house (group member) not to many people will attend we will film it in a tight screen to make it packed. Today's meeting was important because we needed to group together to get the information we got separately.

Group meeting StoryBoard Update (PRE PRODUCTION)

Today we finished the storyboard and these are all the shots that will happen in different locations we have explained that every shot will cut back to different scenes that will be filmed in the studio at college and the dancers will be filmed as well in there. We have showed Akon bit and the shots that he will be taking as well and we have discussed as group what shots we will be taken on and maybe adding in any additional shots as well, as a group we all know what we want to do in the music video also adding shots in from the storyboard.   

Group Meeting: Risk assessment (PRE PRODUCTION)

Today we completed the risk assessment and filled out the various boxes of the problems we are going to face when we start filming in the certain location and what we need to do to avoid these risk, some of the risk has affects on editing and filming also the safety of the actor and crew we will be filming on stairs, bumpy roads so things like this will be a risk to equipment as well. Especially dancers, could trip up and hurt themselves so we had to take notice of this and plan it out so familiar risks can be avoided as a group. We are planning to tell the actors where they the risk will be and tell them be careful in certain areas and not to mess around when filming so that they take notice of the dangerous things around them.

Today's Group Meeting

In today's group meeting we worked separately on different things Rochelle worked on the release forms setting it up and filling them out also working out on how much we needed for each actor and dancers so that we can give them out as soon as possible. Elisa was sending out emails for certain locations and also the music company that is signed to Chris brown even though we know we will not get a response we are aware that for any other situation we would have to ask for permission. Lastly I was working on the storyboard starting and finishing up the first scene drawing the gathering and indicating when the music will start.

Lyric Plan

In today's lesson we discussed lyrics plans, so that we know what location we want for each shot and when and who will be in that shot. Also who is going to be in that scene including the dancers and actors. We annotated the lyrics saying that the Chris brown actor should be in the studio for the first verse and the chorus because the verse is so short and the chorus is repetitive we should have him in the studio by himself thinking about the girl and while this is happening there would be cut back to the girl walking down the street and him talking to her this would be in slow motion and would cut back to him in the studio thinking about that time he saw her. Akon's bit there would be a scene where he is by himself in the studio and also with the Chris brown actor to show the relationship between the two singers.
